The Gowfers started brightly and could have been in front before the actually took the lead, Ryan Dignan was brought down in the box by Longside keeper Iain Summers and Sam Simpson gave the keeper no chance to atone for his error as he smashed the penalty in to the back of the net on 20 minutes. Three minutes later it was 2-0, Robert Urquhart was felled just outside the box and instead of putting the ball in the box, Jamie McCabe knocked the ball back to skipper Steven Cook, and he caught the ball sweetly, rifling it in to Summers top corner, giving him no chance. Carnoustie were forced in to a change on the half hour when Paddy Conway took a knock and was replaced by Pat Martin. The game was effectively won five minutes before half time when Ryan Dignan volleyed the ball home from close range after great work from Pat Martin. There was still chance for Carnoustie to make it four but Barrie Gourlays back heel flick was saved by Summers.
The second half started as the first had ended with Carnoustie on the front foot and the visitors made it 4-0 on the hour mark after the referee awarded what appeared to be a soft penalty for a foul once more on Dignan, Simpson made no mistake despite a valiant attempt by Summers. Longside managed to pull a goal back on 74 minutes after a good run and finish from Neil Moir before Pat Martin was shown a red card for an alleged gesticulation at the Assistant Referee who brought it to the referees attention. Carnoustie saw out the remaining 13 minutes without any scares and secured a comfortable victory.
