Carnoustie 3 Arthurlie 0

Carnoustie marched past Arthurlie at Laing Park and secure a place in the Scottish Junior Cup Quarter Finals, running out 3-0 winners.

Gowfers boss Alan McSkimming was forced in to a change from the side that went down 3-0 to Linlithgow Rose last weekend with Jake Mair missing the game through a hamstring injury so Adam Harwood who himself has been out since November came back in to the centre of defence, Steven Cook moved to left back and Ewan Buggins moved to right back.

The first half was pretty even with the Arthurlie keeper slightly busier than Alan Cormack but the sides went in level at 0-0

The second half was all Carnoustie but it wasn’t until the 79th minute that the Gowfers took a deserved lead. Sam Simpson terrorised the Arthurlie defence and as he was about to shoot he was tripped by a defender, the referee pointed straight to the spot. Simpson took the kick himself and sent the keeper the wrong way and put Carnoustie one up. Four minutes later it was 2-0 and once again Simpson was the architect, beating his man crossing the ball in to a crowded box, the ball fell to Ryan Dignan who curved his shot beyond the keeper and in to the far corner. Simpson scored his second and Carnoustie’s third in stoppage time, a great combination on the right involving Dignan and Robert Urquhart saw Urquhart escape, his wicked cross was missed by Dignan but went through to Simpson who curled a sweet effort in to the top corner, well out of the keepers reach.

A tremendous performance by Carnoustie that sees them progress to the Quarter Finals for the first time since 2004
