The Gowfers produced one of their performances of the season to beat Bo’ness United 2-1 at Laing Park.
Manager Alan McSkimming was missing several key players and had to field a makeshift back four of Bailey Steel Ewan Buggins, Paddy Conway and Steven Cook. Marc Walker started on the right in place of the battered and bruised Robert Urquhart.
Carrnoustie took the lead on 12 minutes when Sam Simpson scored from the penalty spot after Pat Martin had been bundled to the ground by Will Snowdon, The Gowfers led until the 75th minute when Nick Prentice was fed by Snowdon, his shot initially shot was well saved by Jamie Robbie but the Bo’ness man acted quickest and slotted home the rebound. Carnoustie came back well and created wave after wave of attacks as they looked for a winner which came in stoppage time. Sam Simpson marauded down the left before crossing for Darren Cooper, the young striker turned sharply, took both central defenders out of the game before firing the ball in to the top corner for a deserved winner.
A fitting end to a great season
