Laing Park had taken plenty of rain over the last couple of days and it was a heavy shower around mid day that finally put paid to this afternoons game against Kennoway Star Hearts, after the pitch had passed an inspection at 9.15am.
General Manager, Mark Johnson said “We called for an inspection this morning after overnight rain had put the game in doubt. The match referee passed the pitch fit at 9.30 on the understanding that if heavy rain fell then he would inspect again. A heavy wintery shower fell around midday and a call was put in to get the referee to have another look with water standing on the pitch. Upon his arrival it was decided that with both teams at the ground the problem areas would be forked but as more rain fell, the game was called of at approximately 1.15pm.”
” It is annoying for everyone, both sides wanted the game on but the referee has a duty of care to the players and had to call the game off. We have to move on and be ready for Newtongrange Star next week and will face Kennoway at a later date, probably a midweek.”
