Carnoustie Panmure’s run in the Scottish Junior Cup is over for another season after they were beaten 3-1 at Laing Park by Glenafton Athletic.

The Gowfers were down to the bare bones for the game and were only able to name four substitutes.

The visitors started much brighter and were rewarded with an early goal after just four minutes when Ollie Rowe smashed the ball into the roof of the net at the back post. Gowfers keeper Darren Clarkson was forced into a couple of great saves before Carnoustie got back into the game and got themselves back on level on 37 minutes when a long-range effort from Jamie Winter was only parried by the Glenafton keeper and Gordon Macdonald slammed the ball home to equalise.

Carnoustie started the second half better but as the visitors got back on top a Paul Paton shot was deflected past Darren Clarkson on 67 minutes, in the aftermath of the goal Danny Millar had to be replaced by Greg Warwick. The Gowfers had no choice but to chase the game and were caught out Sean McKenzie latched on to a long ball before slipping the ball past Clarkson to make sure of the win for Glenafton on 78 minutes.

The Ayrshire side will now face Bellshill Athletic away from home in the Quarter Finals.
