CARNOUSTIE 2 HUNTLY 1
Competition for places in Alan McSkimmings new look Gowfers side is leading impressive personal performances which in turn leads to good team performances.
The manager made changes to the side that comfortably defeated Fife Thistle. With five players missing from the squad and only four substitutes named, club captain Steven Cook came in at left back, Jamie McCabe and Sam Simpson returned in midfield with Liam Scott and Marc Walker dropping to the bench. Jake Mair started in the place of Robert Urquhart.
It started badly for Panmure as Sam Simpson was dispossesed and the ball fed to Huntly’s Charlesworth, the striker rounded Jamie Robbie before slipping the ball home. The Gowfers were level on 20 minutes when Simpson atoned for his mistake when he rose like a salmon to beat a poor attempt by the visiting keeper and head Cooks free kick home.
The winner came within 5 minutes of the start of the second half. Ryan Dignan was felled in the box and referee Greg Soutar pointed straight to the spot. Simpson made no mistake from 12 yards putting Carnoustie in front.
The homeside continued to dominate the game against their Highland League opponents with Derek Paterson and Adam Harwood continuing to form a solid partnership at the back. Jamie Robbie was had just one real save to make, turning a shot from distance wide.
Man of the Match was Vice Captain John Roberts who doninated midfield and never stopped working.
The Gowfers move on to game 3 of the pre season campaign and a trip to Luncarty on Wednesday night.
