Carnoustie came from behind twice before securing their place in the Third Round of the GA Engineering Cup thanks to a Sam Simpson Hat Trick at Laing Park.

Jeanfield took an early lead against the run of play on 6 minutes and that was the score at the break despite Carnoustie having the majority of possession.

The home side came out envigorated and got a deserved equaliser, five minutes in to the second half through Sam Simpson.Jeanfield took the lead again on 73 minutes after a slip by Danny Millar. Despite playing some great football Carnoustie couldn’t find the equaliser until in the second minute of injury time the referee pointed to the penalty spot after the ball struck a Jeanfield hand in the box. Simpson took over the penalty duties from Jamie McCabe and comfortably drew the home side level. The game now looked to be heading back to the spot for a penalty shootout, however, Michael McIlravey had other ideas leaving his man for dead before crossing in for Simpson to tap the ball home to win the game and complete his hat trick.

A committed performance from Carnoustie after manager Alan McSkimming had shuffled his pack to give players game time. This side appears to have a never say die attitude , long may it continue
