Carnoustie Panmure closed to within three points of Midlands League leaders Dundee East Craigie after a 5-1 win over Dundee St James at a windy Fairfield Park.
Storm Malik couldn’t thwart The Gowfers with the game going ahead and manager Phil McGuire made three changes to the starting XI from the one on duty against Lochee United. Sam Simpson, Jamie Winter and Ryan Suttie dropped to the bench with Ryan Dignan, Kieran Conway and Finn Kemlo coming in.
Carnoustie settled quicker to the conditions and took the lead after 10 minutes through Connor Coupe but the home side gradually found their feet and equalised on 25 minutes when Hay scoring at the back post. Carnoustie regained the lead on 35 minutes with Dale Reid scoring his 27th goal of the season and the visitors went in at half time in front.
After the break it was all Carnoustie but it wasn’t until the 71st minute that Reid struck again to make it 3-1 and St James task was made harder on 82 minutes when Steve Abbotts red card, saw them reduced to ten men. A minute later and it was Ryan Dignan’s turn to get in on the act with number four and five minutes later he made it 5-1 and the Gowfers had secured another three points in the chase of East Craigie.
