We knew that we needed to at least match East Craigie if they were to keep the pressure on the chasing Shipbuilders. Phil McGuire’s side took the lead on 11 minutes through a great Jamie Winter free kick before Dale Reid struck his 50th goal of the season, fifteen minutes later.
With the managers half-time words ringing in their ears, Carnoustie made it 3-0 from a deflected Winter strike and ten minutes later it was four, with Dale Reid adding his second goal. Harp hadn’t threatened all game but pulled a goal back on 73 minutes through an own goal, Ryan Suttie getting his head to a long ball and flicking it over Jamie Robbie. Conceding the goal compounded The Gowfers nerves but skipper Ryan Roche headed a fifth on 83 minutes before the mercurial Winter, completed his hat-trick when he was brought down in the box, getting up and converting the penalty.
Following Saturday’s results, Carnoustie are three points clear and have a two goal better goal difference from a game more than East Craigie. Craigie play their game in hand, at home to Tayport on Wednesday 4th May and then on May 7th, Craigie host Dundee North End and Carnoustie go to Forfar West End in the Midlands League’s very own helicopter Saturday.
